Nike announce search for champion Freestyler in UK tour

4 April 2003
London, England

Nike’s new Freestyle ad campaign features football and basketball tricksters (including Brazilian ace Ronaldinho) competing against ‘Stickman’ – the animated freestyle king.

Now Nike is looking for the UK’s best football and basketball players to show off their own skills and moves at a series of ‘Freestyle Face Off’ events round the country, with four winners going forward to the ultimate Face Off on MTV, where viewers can vote to find the UK’s Champion Freestyler.

Two Freestyle Face Off events (London and Manchester) are open to all-comers and will bring thousands of players determined to show that they’ve got the tricks and skills to make them the UK’s Champion Freestyler. They can shake their moves in a main arena, with the best freestylers going on to showcase sessions on a main stage. From these, the best of the best - two winners per event - will go before the nation on MTV.

As well as the main competition arena, the Freestyle Face Off events will feature pro tricksters to learn from, big-name footballers, an X-box gaming area, DJ and beat-box workshops, breakdance teams and a tricks arena.

The two London and Manchester events will be preceded by a Freestyle Face Off Tour (for 18’s and under) at clubs in six cities around the country. As well as MTV DJ’s and the full club experience there will be pro tricksters performing and the chance for kids to win a place at the main London and Manchester events by showing off their own ball skills and moves.

Freestyle is all about rhythm, attitude and stunning ball moves; it’s about self-expression. It’s not just about doing the tricks, it’s about doing them in style.

The Freestyle Face Off Events:
Sunday 4th May - Earls Court 2, London
Sunday 11th May - G-Mex, Manchester

Tuesday April 15th – Ikon, Coventry
Thursday April 17th – Ikon, Newcastle
